Arkansas ranks fourth in nation for opioid use disorder diagnoses

Arkansas had the fourth-highest rate of opioid use disorder among commercially insured patients from 2021 to 2024, according to FAIR Health’s Opioid Tracker.

The state recorded 1,218 diagnoses per 100,000 people in 2024 — more than twice the national average of 539. Only Tennessee, West Virginia, and Kentucky had higher rates.

Women accounted for 51% of Arkansas’ cases, and the largest age group was 31 to 40. Nationally, diagnoses increased by nearly 40% over the three-year period…
