Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office to launch “Extreme Safety” campaign

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTVE/KARD) — In an effort to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists across the state, the Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office has launched the “Extreme Safety” campaign, running from October 6-18, 2025. The initiative coincides with National Pedestrian Safety Month and aims to raise awareness about the growing risks faced by vulnerable road users.

Recent data highlights the urgency of the campaign. In 2020, Arkansas recorded 81 pedestrian fatalities, marking a 10-year high. While the number slightly declined to 74 deaths in 2023, the issue remains critical. Urban areas are especially dangerous, accounting for 70% of pedestrian fatalities, with 78% of incidents occurring between 6 PM and 6 AM, when visibility is reduced.
