Two animal control resignations spark outrage at Mayflower city council meeting

MAYFLOWER, Ark. (KATV) — Some people in Mayflower are upset after two of the city’s animal control officers announced their resignations on Facebook. Concerned residents showed up to Monday night’s city council meeting asking leaders to act, but council members say they didn’t even know about the resignations.

The resignations came from animal control officers Lisa Kossman and Machenzie Mikes, who both posted about their decisions on the Mayflower Animal Control fan page. Mikes wrote, “Unfortunately I can no longer continue in my role due to the city council’s recent decision to move forward with euthanasia for the animals in our care.” But council members say they never made that decision.

“This has absolutely nothing to do with the city council,” said council member Mark Hickman. “This is all rhetoric everybody brought here. Thank you for bringing the news, I guess Mayflower needs some good attention, but this has nothing to do with us. Everybody can talk, but we don’t know anything about it.”…
