1827 – The Conway-Crittenden duel. Territorial secretary Robert Crittenden shot and mortally wounded territorial delegate Henry Wharton Conway at a dueling ground near the confluence of the White and Mississippi rivers (across from Montgomery’s Point). Conway died on November 9.
