CRITTENDEN COUNTY, Ark. — Arkansas State Police say a driver reached speeds of more than 140 miles per hour during a pursuit last month on Interstate 40 before troopers lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the chase.
According to a report filed by Trooper Eli Thomas, the incident occurred on Oct. 24 while he was monitoring westbound traffic on I-40. Thomas wrote that he clocked a passenger vehicle traveling 101 mph in a 65-mph zone. When he pulled onto the interstate to catch up, the vehicle accelerated to around 120 mph and continued increasing speed.
After passing Exit 279A, Thomas activated his emergency lights and sirens. The driver responded by speeding up again, reportedly reaching more than 140 mph. Thomas notified dispatch that he was in pursuit…
