Comparing Retail Landscapes: A Tale of Two Cities

The author shares their experience of living in Jackson, Mississippi before moving to Little Rock years ago. Despite their preference for Little Rock over Jackson, they recently visited Jackson for Thanksgiving and were impressed by the shopping centers there, particularly Highland Village and the Renaissance in Madison. They expressed their fondness for stores like Sur La Table and William Sonoma, and wished that such stores could thrive in Little Rock. However, they observed that for some reason, these stores cannot sustain in Little Rock, and the Promenade shopping center in Little Rock doesn’t quite measure up to the ones in Jackson. The author then poses a question to the readers, asking why they think this is the case.
