World War II aircraft set for restoration by Arkansas group

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Officials with a central Arkansas group said they are preparing to restore a World War II aircraft.

Officials with the Razorback Wing of the Commemorative Air Force said the aircraft is a Consolidated-Vultee BT-13A Valiant. Produced from 1940 to 1944, BT-13s were a basic trainer for military pilots preparing for service.

Post-Thanksgiving flight delays could continue into beginning of week

A Razorback Wing spokesperson said BT-13s were used at the Walnut Ridge Army Air Field, where more than 4,600 cadets earned their wings between 1942 and 1944. The restoration is to honor those who trained at Walnut Ridge, they added.

The wing hopes to generate funds for the restoration through the CAF’s 12 Planes of Christmas campaign.

Once the aircraft is restored, it will become a historic touchstone, travelling to airshows, schools and community events throughout the state to engage students, veterans and airplane fans, officials said…
