‘We’ve seen people come here who haven’t eaten for days.’ Looking at the impact of a food pantry in central Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – At Second Place Pantry in downtown Little Rock, about 75% of the food lining the shelves comes from the Arkansas Foodbank. For shoppers like Wendell Hunt, a free meal means everything.

“When you’re on a fixed income, you just live from day to day. Month to month. There’s no special holiday,” Hunt said.

Hunt has been visiting the pantry since it opened in 2024. He’s one of more than 1,100 people the pantry has served with free meals this year alone.
