Arkansas battles pharmacy giants over drug pricing power

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KATV) — Arkansas is in the midst of a legal showdown with pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) over Act 624, a law that would ban PBMs from owning pharmacies in the state.

Critics, including the Federal Trade Commission, argue that PBMs use their power to underpay independent pharmacies while overpaying their own, and have been accused of steering patients to their pharmacies and inflating drug prices.
