LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Arkansas Department of Health says the state has more than 500 reported cases of pertussis, or whooping cough, this year, the most in the department’s 15-year collection history.
The ADH said more than 50 of the state’s 75 counties have at least one case reported and noted that whooping cough cases have increased nationwide.
The majority of cases in the state were reported among school-aged children and teenagers. At least 50 people have been hospitalized due to whooping cough, which was around 10% of the reported cases. More than 60% of those hospitalized were infants under the age of one…
