FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The latest Arkansas Department of Health report ranks flu activity in the state as still “high” as districts across the region returned to class this week.
At Fayetteville Public Schools, Melissa Alderson, director of health services, said the district expects a peak in absences and flu cases next week as those infected this week begin to develop symptoms. The district has already increased hours for sanitation staff to provide additional cleaning of classrooms and common areas.
“Anytime our students come together, staff comes together, we’re going to have increased illness,” Alderson said, adding, “I can not say enough positive comments about our custodial department and how they increased cleaning in our schools. Every night, there’s extra cleaning in the classrooms, and all services, to help protect our students and staff.”…
