Big Brothers Big Sisters launches teen driving safety program in central Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. —In collaboration with A1 Thompson Driving School and the Arkansas Highway Safety Office, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas has started a new teen driving safety program with the goal of lowering traffic fatalities and injuries among young drivers.

This week was the first class for the program, which is supported by a grant from the Arkansas Highway Safety Office, a branch of the Arkansas State Police and the Arkansas Department of Public Safety. The need is urgent, according to the organizers, who point out that Arkansas has the eighth-highest rate of teen traffic fatalities in the country.

Up to 50 students are expected to participate in the program’s first session. Half are enrolled through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas, while the remaining students come from the surrounding community…
