“Finally home,” 3 lions make journey from Honduras to Arkansas refuge

EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. — A local wildlife refuge is getting some new feline residents

The Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge welcomed three African lions last week following a huge international relocation effort. The three – Cyrus, Zephora, and Juancito – came from Honduras; five others also went to a tiger rescue in North Carolina.

The big cats made their way to their new home via ship, air, and finally ground through U.S. highways, TCWR said in a release. They arrived at their new forever home on January 15.

“This mission represents everything sanctuary work stands for – international cooperation, compassion in action, and a future where rescued animals are given the lives they deserve,” said Scott Smith, TCWR vice president who participated in the rescue. “After an unbelievable journey, these lions are finally home.”…
