Northern Arkansas prepares for severe winter storm with ice concerns

HARRISON, AR. (KY3) – Road crews in the northern Ozarks are preparing for what could be a significant winter storm, but northern Arkansas crews are facing the additional challenge of removing ice from streets alongside snow removal.

“This will probably be the worst one we’ve had in 20 years,” said Wade Phillips, Harrison Public Works director.

Phillips said all hands are on deck as crews prepare for the winter storm. Workers are getting equipment ready, ensuring it’s operational and stocking spare parts, including chains, bungees for holding chains, and blades for plows.

Round-the-clock operations planned

Crews will work in 12-hour shifts to stay ahead of the elements and keep roads clear for residents who need to travel, as well as for first responders and essential workers…
