Army awards lease of Pine Bluff Arsenal to Hanwha Defense USA for planned $1.3 billion investment, lawmakers react

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Federal lawmakers from Arkansas have shared statements supporting the move by the U.S. Army to lease out the Pine Bluff Arsenal.

U.S. Army officials announced on Wednesday that the Pine Bluff Arsenal will be leased to Hanwha Defense USA for what officials call an enhanced use lease to build and operate a munitions facility.

An Army release states that Hanwha is set to invest $1.3 billion in the facility and create around 200 jobs for the area.

“This partnership will bring the manufacturing of essential ingredients for explosives and propellants to the United States, a critical step in strengthening the nation’s defense organic industrial base,” officials said. “This move directly enhances the performance, safety, and lifespan of crucial munitions, including 155mm artillery shells.”…
