LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Leaders of the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission are highlighting the significance of honoring African American history as an essential component of the country’s narrative as Black History Month gets underway.
“African American history is a part of the fabric of American history,” said Tiffany Pettus, a historian with the commission.
Pettus shared that African American history is a collective tale of survival, victory, and tenacity rather than just dates and events. She cited the historic Ninth Street in Little Rock as an example of that heritage in action.
