Court rules in favor of 2023 lawsuit against changes to Arkansas voter petition requirements

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A judge has ruled in favor of a lawsuit challenging a law that raised the requirements for collecting signatures on ballot initiatives in Arkansas.

The 2023 suit was filed by the League of Women Voters of Arkansas and Sen. Bryan King in Circuit Court of Pulaski County alleged that “Act 236 was unconstitutional based on the grounds that it conflicts with the express conditions set forth in the Initiative and Referendum Amendment to the Arkansas Constitution.”
