Ranch worker’s tick-bite comp claim revived

An Arkansas appeals court reinstated the workers compensation claim of a ranch hand who developed a tick-borne illness, overturning a state commission’s decision to deny benefits.

In Jonathan Mohler v. Robert A. Young III dba Cross Creek Ranch LLC; Midwest Insurance Co., the Court of Appeals of Arkansas ruled Tuesday that Mr. Mohler sufficiently proved that his illness arose out of his job on a cattle ranch.

Mr. Mohler worked outdoors tending livestock, repairing fences and baling hay on a 1,000-acre ranch, where he also lived in employer-provided housing. He said tick bites were common during his work…
