AST Blog: A Year Later, The March Night Arkansas Won’t Forget

One year ago, Arkansas was struck by a violent overnight tornado outbreak that produced 15 confirmed tornadoes across 14 counties from the evening of March 14 into the early morning of March 15, 2025.

Three people were killed in Cushman and 3 killed in Bakersfield by the EF3 tornado that dropped in northern Baxter County. Dozens were injured across the state. Nearly every tornado touched down at night, making it one of the most dangerous severe weather setups the state has seen in recent years.

The outbreak included two EF4 tornadoes. The Stone-to-Randolph tornado tracked nearly 94 miles from Stone County through Izard, Sharp, and Randolph counties, with peak winds of 170 mph. The Diaz tornado was shorter-lived, but it reached a full mile in width with peak winds of 190 mph. That tornado killed three people and damaged 43 structures in Jackson County alone.
