West Metro Fire chief warns of funding shortfall as department sends crews to help fight wildfires statewide

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — West Metro Fire Rescue says it is being stretched thin as wildfires continue to burn across Colorado, with the department’s chief saying funding has not kept pace with growing demand for emergency services.

Fire Chief Jeremy Metz said crews from the West Metro Fire Protection District are not only responding to emergencies within their own community but are also being sent to assist with wildfires in other parts of the state, adding pressure to a department he says is already short on resources.

“It’s a strain not having enough resources just to respond to our own community’s needs, but also to be called on to support other Colorado incidents when they are occurring,” Metz said…
