DENVER (KDVR) — A West Metro Fire Rescue firefighter is in critical condition following an injury during a training exercise on Wednesday morning, the agency announced in a post on X.
Just after 11 a.m. on Wednesday, during a high-angle rescue training exercise, officials said that Firefighter/Paramedic Jarrod Leonard fell about 50 feet in a steep and rocky area near Morrison just west of C-470.

Leonard has served with the department for over 23 years, and he’s a technical rescue instructor alongside his daily firefighting duties, as he trains his colleagues to perform specialized rescues.
According to an update at 2:33 p.m., Leonard is still in critical condition and continues to receive treatment and evaluations.
