DENVER (KDVR) — The family of a man shot and killed on an RTD bus Saturday night in Denver is asking questions.
The Denver Police Department continues to investigate the killing. Family members say the victim, who later died at the hospital, is 60-year-old Richard Sanchez, and he was just a few blocks from home when the scene unfolded at Mississippi Avenue and Federal Boulevard.

On that same corner stood his grieving family Tuesday night.
“It feels unreal,” said Sanchez’s grandson, Joseph Chavez. “He was always happy. He was a really happy dude.”
Police say the shots were fired inside an RTD bus at the stop, but that’s the extent of the details they’ve shared. As for the family, they didn’t find out what had happened until they went to police on Monday to report him missing.
“I was really heartbroken, honestly,” Chavez said. “I don’t understand how someone could do that to such an honest person. It’s been hard because we didn’t know where he was at, and the whole time, he was at the hospital and they didn’t contact us. Nobody was there with him during his last breath.”
