CDOT warns drivers on mountain roads to expect heavy snow this weekend

DENVER ( KDVR ) — If you’re heading to the mountains this weekend, be prepared to drive through some winter weather.

Even if it’s just rain and some snowflakes in the metro area, the mountains will see around one to two feet of snow.

The Colorado Department of Transportation warns of significant snow in the high country and southwest Colorado.

Denver is going to see mostly slush with a mix of rain and snow this weekend. However, the mountain roads will be coated with powder.

On Friday morning, the high country will see some snow with possible rain later in the day, according to the Pinpoint Weather team.

Meanwhile. the foothills and Palmer Divide could see wet snow for most of the night with slushy roads expected.

What to know about the early February weekend storm

On Saturday, the snow continues. Some mountain towns could end up with over a foot of accumulation. The foothills and Palmer Divide will see wet snow through the day that will taper off through midday.
