Opinion: Can Denver handle another homeless hotel like Fusion Studios?

The model Colorado Coalition for the Homeless created for Fusion Studios is about to be replicated at a newly acquired hotel. But can Denver handle another Fusion Studios?

Cathy Alderman, spokesperson for the Coalition, said the former Clarion 200 W. 48th Ave, will be called Renewal Village. Renewal Village should open by the end of August and start leasing in September, Alderman said. In the meantime, the Coalition is finishing renovations to the property.

Like Fusion Studios, part of the 215-room hotel will be for temporary shelter stays and part will be permanent supportive housing. With permanent supportive housing, providers such as psychiatrist, therapists, nurses, case workers and program managers are on site to assist tenants in their recovery from homelessness. People with a permanent supportive housing voucher receive support indefinitely if they want it.

Permanent supportive housing v. temporary shelter
