For the second time this season, Denver’s housing department is activating its emergency cold weather shelters to keep homeless people warm amid freezing temperatures this week.
Denver’s Department of Housing Stability on Tuesday will activate its cold weather sheltering plan, which provides additional shelter for people not in city or third-party homeless shelters.
Temperatures from Tuesday to Wednesday in Denver are expected to reach the low 20s.
Beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday, the city will open three shelters: the former Best Western hotel, now a homeless shelter, at 4595 Quebec St., and city facilities at 2601 W. 7th Ave. and 375 S. Zuni St.
All shelters will close at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a housing department news release.
“Cold weather poses a serious danger to people who are unsheltered,” city officials said.
The city previously opened emergency homeless shelters for Denver’s first snowstorm two weeks ago.
