Friday’s balmy weather is heading out, at least for a little while.
The latest: A shot of arctic air is set to arrive in Colorado this weekend and continue into next week.
- The storm will likely bring light snow to most of the Denver metro and Eastern Plains on Saturday night and early Sunday morning, Zach Hiris, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Boulder, tells us.
Zoom in: Temperatures are expected to drop below seasonal averages, with highs only reaching the upper 20s to low 30s on Sunday and early next week.
- The far northeastern corner of the state will feel the frosty temperatures most intensely, Hiris says.
The big picture: A storm system featuring punishing cold weather is beginning across much of the U.S. , with extreme temperatures in the forecast for more than 150 million Americans , Axios’ Andrew Freedman writes.
- While the Midwest and Eastern states are expected to face the brunt of the chill, Colorado won’t fully escape its icy grip.
