Rental home destroyed in fire in Evergreen

DENVER ( KDVR ) — A structure that had been converted into a rental home in Evergreen is a total loss after it was burned in a fire early Saturday morning.

Evergreen Fire Rescue first posted about the fire at 3:14 a.m. saying crews were responding to the fire in the 7400 block of Brook Forest Road.

Firefighters found the blaze in an outbuilding on the property and began putting water on the fire. During their firefighting efforts, crews worked to cool a propane tank that the agency said was exposed to the heat of the fire.

“The tank’s built-in venting system is working, but adding vaporous propane to a volatile incident,” EFR wrote in a post on X .

Just after 4 a.m., EFR said the fire in the building and from the venting propane tanks was extinguished. Investigators responded as crews continued to check for hot spots.

The agency said the resident escaped safely but the outbuilding-turned-rental-home is a “complete loss.”

The fire remains under investigation, and Brook Forest Road was closed due to ice that formed after firefighting efforts.
