DENVER ( KDVR ) — A man suspected of several break-ins across the Denver metro surrendered to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies on New Year’s Day after he fled into an icy pond .
The agency shared body-worn camera footage of the arrest on Tuesday, showing the man trying to stick it out in the cold water. In the video, the man eventually crawls from the water and lays down to allow the deputies to arrest him without further incident.

“People try to get away from us in a variety of ways, but this certainly was probably one of the chilliest,” said Karlyn Tilley, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. “He got in there and realized pretty quickly that you can’t swim in freezing cold water. So, his only option was to surrender.”
The Jeffco office identified the suspect as Favian Gonzalez-Garcia, 32, and said he is potentially linked to over a dozen metro-area break-ins. On Tuesday, Gonzalez-Garcia’s court record showed he was facing seven charges out of Jefferson County. All but one is for second-degree burglary of a dwelling, with the final charge for theft in the amount of $20,000 to $100,000.
