FBI warns Colorado drivers of fake toll bill scam

DENVER (KDVR) — The FBI is issuing a new warning about scams appearing via text messages and emails. The agency has received more than 2,000 complaints about scams involving imposters posing as toll bill collectors.

“Their whole purpose is to try to get you to act off of impulse,” said Brian Blauser of the FBI Financial Crimes Squad.

The scam texts usually include a link for “bill pay” that will lead the victim to a scammer waiting to collect money and personal information.
