‘It happened again’: Driver hit by I-70 gate in 2023 speaks out after learning of new case and claim denial

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — FOX31 is digging deeper into a local couple’s dilemma after a road closure gate on Interstate 70 swung open and hit their truck.

The story was first covered on Monday , after the couple got a letter saying the Colorado Department of Transportation wouldn’t cover the vehicle damage. That denial letter specifically referred to CDOT not having prior notification of a problem existing in that location.

After the story aired, another driver reached out and said the same thing happened to him at the same spot in 2023.

“I thought they’d do something about it after I hit that same gate,” Alex Harvey said. “I cut my losses thinking that it was just a one-off thing and then saw it happen to somebody else and had to reach out and do something about it.”…
