Xcel Energy: Proposed natural gas, energy prices may add more than $2.50 to Colorado residential bills

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Xcel Energy announced newly adjusted natural gas and electricity prices that will be proposed for the second quarter of 2025, possibly increasing customers’ bills.

Every quarter, Xcel Energy said it submits a proposed fuel price adjustment to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. The company said prices are adjusted based on the current commodity price of natural gas, which affects both natural gas and electric services.

“These adjustments are updated each quarter and fuel costs are recovered from customers on a dollar-for-dollar basis. Xcel Energy does not profit from fuel cost recovery,” the company wrote in the Friday announcement.

According to Xcel, the quarterly gas cost adjustment for the second quarter of 2025 would increase 6.5% for residential customers, upping the average residential customer’s bill by $2.64. Prices for small commercial customers would increase 7.81%, upping their bills by an average of $14.07…
