Arrest made in connection to 2007 homicide of young mother in northern Colorado

FREDERICK, Colo. (KKTV) – A 72-year-old man was arrested last week in Nebraska in connection to the death of a young mother in northern Colorado nearly 20 years ago.

According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Darrell Burklund, a former maintenance worker, was arrested on March 14 in York, Nebraska, in connection to the 2007 murder of Jessica Bejarano, who was 25 at the time of her death. Burklund, pictured below, was booked on a single count of Second Degree Murder.

CBI said police officers in Fredrick, Colo. responded to a call on April 6, 2007 that resulted in the location of the body of Bajarano in the bathroom of a home with a single stab wound to her chest. Officials said Bajarano’s four-year-old daughter and two-year-old son were in the home at the time of the incident.

As part of initial investigation, CBI said investigators looked at a number of suspects, and ultimately found DNA evidence that had a potential match to Burklund. Burklund was interviewed by investigators on Friday and, following that interview, taken into custody…
