Colorado – In a tragic incident in Colorado, 47-year-old J. Hof has been arrested in connection with the death of her elderly parent, L. Hof. The victim, who suffered from dementla and required 24-hour care, was found dead in their shared home, surrounded by numerous animaIs.​ The defendant was taken into custody earlier this month, facing charges of criminal negligence resulting in death of an at-risk adult and four dozen counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. She is currently held at the county jail on a $50,000 bond. ​

On February 3, 2025, deputies responded to a report of an unconscious woman at the family’s residence. Upon arrival, they discovered the 76-year-old victim unresponsive, with several animaIs running loose inside the home. An autopsy later confirmed that the woman’s death resulted from injuries sustained during a d0g attack.

Investigators learned that the defendant had left her parent alone at home while she ran errands. The elderly victim, due to her dementia, required constant supervision, making her vulnerable in her daughter’s absence. A subsequent search of the residence and another property owned by the defendant revealed more than sixty pets. The animals were living in unsanitary conditions, with several in poor health.
