Family demands answers after woman’s death in the Jefferson County jail

GOLDEN, Colo. — A 37-year-old woman died in her cell at the Jefferson County jail on Aug. 27, nearly three weeks after her arrest on burglary and criminal trespassing charges, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and family members.

Sasha Chavez was found unresponsive in her cell in the early morning hours of Aug. 27, according to a release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies administered two doses of Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, the release states.

Chavez had been arrested Aug. 8 in Wheat Ridge and was awaiting a court date scheduled for early September, her family said…
