Amid all the pretty pictures of Robert Redford during an hour-long special of the actor’s life on Thursday night, the commercial break came as a jarring interruption. Over a dark photo of the Denver skyline, a serious voice intoned: “Attention Denver law enforcement, you took an oath to protect and serve. To keep your family and your city safe. But in sanctuary cities, you’re ordered to stand down, while dangerous illegals walk free.”
More scary pictures were shown of Denver, showing just how bad life can get in an alleged sanctuary city, with sirens, handcuffs and general hell. And then: “Join ICE and help us catch the worst of the worst: drug traffickers, gang members, predators. Join the mission to help protect America, with bonuses of up to $50,000 and generous benefits. Apply now. Join Ice.gov and fulfill your mission.”
The Redford special just happened to be airing in Denver on Denver7, an ABC affiliate. Was this ad more cowardly kowtowing by the network to atone for Jimmy Kimmel’s nothing-to-see-here comment in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death? More overkill that could signal the death of free speech?…
