A student at Evergreen High School in Colorado bravely confronted a gunman during a school shooting on September 10, potentially preventing a larger tragedy. According to the family of the unnamed 14-year-old victim, he and a friend faced the shooter, allowing other students time to escape. The incident left two students critically injured before the 16-year-old suspect turned the gun on himself. Authorities have identified the shooter as Desmond Holly, who was reportedly “radicalized by an extremist network,” firing 20 rounds in a nine-minute attack.
The family of the injured student shared a statement through the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, describing their son’s courage and the harrowing encounter with the shooter.
“In those terrifying moments, our son showed a level of bravery, strength, and will to survive that no child should ever be asked to display. He and his friend confronted the assailant, which undoubtedly allowed time for more students to flee and the school to lock down. This life-altering encounter happened before alarms were set off or lockdown announcements made.”…
