DENVER (KDVR) — Denver residents in the Westwood neighborhood will receive light bulbs to put outside their homes as part of an effort to reduce crime and violence in the area.
The Denver Police Department and some volunteers will walk around the neighborhood on Tuesday evening, handing out free, energy-efficient, compact fluorescent light bulbs to help light up exterior areas and deter criminal activity.

The area near Morrison Road and South Perry Street was identified as “a hot spot for criminal activity,” police said in a release. The area is also near locations designated as “Place Network Investigations,” which are areas with a high concentration of violent crime that are targeted by police and city agencies for long-term crime reduction goals.
The police department said having well-lit areas is a proven method in deterring crime, so it is giving out the light bulbs, provided by Xcel Energy, to about 100 homes in the southeast area of Morrison Road and South Perry Street…
