Castle Rock restaurant offers free meals to furloughed federal government workers

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — As the federal government enters its longest shutdown in history, small business owners know many of their neighbors have gone weeks without work or pay.

Stack’d, a food truck-turned-restaurant in Castle Rock, wants to make sure no one goes without food. Owner Peter Albert put up a board with a few receipts of prepaid food for furloughed workers to take and present for a meal.

“We’ve been wanting to do this board for a while,” Albert said. “When the government shutdown started happening, we just thought to ourselves, maybe this is the time.”

Albert said he took a photo of his board with five tickets on it and posted it to social media last week. He said that in a few hours, other business owners and people in the community would call in to donate to the board…
