Fire rekindles at Lakewood apartments that caught fire Saturday, displacing dozens

DENVER (KDVR) — Firefighters said a fire that sparked at an apartment building in Lakewood on Saturday morning rekindled a few hours after the fire was determined to be under control.

The fire was reported at an apartment building near 13th Avenue and Lamar Street at about 7 a.m. Callers reported seeing smoke and flames coming out of an upper-level unit.

FOX31’s Kasia Kerridge learned Saturday that the fire damaged 10 units and displaced about 30 people. In addition, the fire killed a cat, but no human injuries were reported.

West Metro Fire Rescue told FOX31 that crews had completed multiple checks of the fire scene before clearing the area: The crews had visually searched the unit, overhauled burn material and used a thermal imaging camera to look for hidden hot spots. Additionally, the crews applied more water to areas of concern.
