What started as a straightforward warrant service in the foothills west of Idaho Springs ended with a grim discovery inside a Dumont home, where law enforcement says they found a man dead and took two other people into custody.
Clear Creek County deputies and agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation say they located the body of 43-year-old Aaron Family on Friday inside a residence in the 400 block of Silver Lakes Drive in Dumont. Investigators say Family appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as officers moved in to serve an outstanding warrant at the address, according to CBS News Colorado.
Authorities say the visit to the mountain home was tied to a failure-to-appear warrant stemming from earlier charges that had already put Family on the radar of multiple agencies.

The new investigation is layered on top of an Oct. 18, 2025 incident that first drew major attention from law enforcement.
