Shots Ring Out Inside Aurora Senior Complex As Cops Swarm Heather Gardens

Residents in Aurora’s Heather Gardens community woke Monday to flashing lights and sirens after a large police response swept into the 13900 block of East Marina Drive following reports of gunfire. Aurora police said the situation was contained to a single building, that affected residents had already been contacted, and that everyone else should steer clear while officers worked to safely wrap up the call.

According to the Aurora Police Department, officers were called to the area on a shots-fired report and quickly determined the situation was “isolated to a specific building.” The department added that “all impacted residents have been contacted” and said officers and other resources on scene were working to “safely resolve the situation,” with more updates promised as information becomes available.

The 13900 block of East Marina Drive sits inside Heather Gardens, a long-established active-adult condominium community just east of Cherry Creek State Park. Listings in the area show mid-rise atrium-style buildings and residential units clustered along East Marina Drive in the 13900s.
