Hochman Fraud Probe Delays County Abuse Settlement Payments

LOS ANGELES – More than 11,000 claims tied to alleged sexual abuse in Los Angeles County facilities will have to wait at least another month for settlement payments after a judge Monday temporarily halted payouts from the county’s $4 billion agreement while District Attorney Nathan Hochman investigates allegations of fraud.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lawrence Riff stopped payments until July 25, rejecting Hochman’s request to freeze the settlement through the end of the year but granting additional time for the court to consider the dispute.

The settlement, approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in 2025, covers claims from victims who alleged they were sexually abused while in county juvenile halls, foster homes, and children’s shelters…
