The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opened its doors with a Los Angeles gala that was so packed with Hollywood royalty, the term “star-studded” almost undersells it.
This was an Oscars/Met Gala-level event that drew such luminaries as Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Oprah Winfrey and, of course, George Lucas.
Yes Lucas made clear that the museum’s big night could have taken place in San Francisco’s Presidio. The “Star Wars” creator originally targeted that site for the $1 billion dollar dream project, which is self-described as “a first-of-its-kind institution dedicated to showcasing the universal tradition of storytelling through images.”
“This has been a long haul … 17 years between getting kicked out of cities and trying to get this built, which is in itself eight years,” Lucas said to about 300 reporters in one of the museum’s two screening rooms, according to the Los Angeles Times…
