Man sought in mother’s death in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CNS) – Santa Ana police Friday asked for the public’s help tracking down a man charged with killing his mother in Santa Ana.

Richard Towers, 50, was charged Wednesday with murder and elder and dependent adult abuse with a sentencing enhancement for great bodily injury to an elderly victim, according to court records. Towers is accused of killing 82- year-old Shirley Towers in January, according to the criminal complaint.

Santa Ana police say they were called to a local hospital Jan. 15 regarding suspected elder abuse. Shirley Towers was brought in unconscious with multiple wounds on her legs that police say was consistent with neglect.

Shirley Towers was pronounced dead at the hospital on Jan. 25, police said.
