L.A. County man sold more than 19,000 fentanyl pills

A Los Angeles County man was sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison for distributing drugs, including more than 19,000 pills containing fentanyl.

Juan Luis Martinez, a 48-year-old Bell resident, was sentenced to 188 months on Monday after he was convicted of distributing fentanyl, distributing methamphetamine and conspiracy to distribute fentanyl following a two-day trial in July, the United States Department of Justice said in a news release.

In 2021, Martinez met with two women in a parking lot and gave them a plastic bag containing more than 19,000 fake oxycodone pills that actually included fentanyl. Those women gave the pills to three other men, who were then pulled over by police.

Martinez also sold more than 300 grams of meth later that year, the release said.
