California LGBTQIA+ Hotline Sees Spike in Crisis Calls Following Election Night, Group Says

The Trevor Project, a West Hollywood-based nonprofit focused on suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ youth, reported a sharp rise in crisis calls after the presidential election results were projected late Tuesday night.

On November 6, the organization’s hotline experienced a staggering 700% increase in calls compared to the prior weeks, reflecting the heightened anxiety and uncertainty in the community.

In a statement, the organization noted a dramatic shift in conversation topics, with “election-related content” spiking nearly 5,200% in its crisis services compared to pre-election day averages.

The Trevor Project anticipates these numbers will remain high in the days following the election, possibly increasing further as young people process the outcome.
