California’s drier water year means fans of super blooms may be disappointed, especially in Southern California’s desert parks. The California State Parks department warned that blooms will be limited this spring, particularly in areas like Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve. However, nature lovers still have options in Northern California.
Mount Tamalpais, just north of San Francisco, is offering “bigger, bolder, and more abundant” wildflowers, including California Goldenbanner and Wooly Indian Paintbrush. In the Santa Rosa area, Trione-Annadel State Park boasts Shooting Stars and Pacific Hound’s Tongue. Samuel P. Taylor State Park’s eastern side also offers vibrant blooms, including Milkmaids.
For an unforgettable experience, remember to respect the wildflowers—don’t trample or pick them.
