California Highway Patrol issues nearly 14,000 citations during recent Maximum Enforcement Period

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The month of April marks National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, putting a spotlight on the dangers of distracted driving and the push for safer driving habits.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took part in a Maximum Enforcement Period from 6 a.m. on April 1 to 5:59 a.m. on April 2. Officers across the state focused on deterring distractions like texting or using handheld devices while driving.

“Distracted driving is one of the most preventable dangers on our roads, yet it continues to put lives at risk every day,” CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee said. “During this enforcement effort, every uniformed member of our department was out on patrol, ensuring drivers stayed focused and made responsible choices behind the wheel.”…
