In the Los Angeles County city of South Gate, a 10-week-old puppy had a bad start. Whether she was abandoned or somehow wandered away from her home and her family is not known, but she had no life experiences to draw from, and surviving on her own was an overwhelming challenge.
What a way for a puppy to start out on life, but instinct told her to be careful and stay away from strangers.
For the past few days, she had been living under a house under construction, and whenever she checked to make sure no one was around, she would dart out from her hiding place and snatch the food one of the neighbors had left for her. She would eat quickly, and then she crawled back under the foundation area and cuddled on a blanket someone had left for her.
Neighbors worried about the puppy on her own and reached out for independent rescuer Suzette Hall. Another rescue partner, Mary Nakiso arrived, and together the women set a trap. Mary had just spotted the puppy run under the house…
