South L.A. resident Alexia Gonzales is graduating from the University of Southern California with her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership.
Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, Gonzales academically excelled in charter and public schools. She earned her bachelor’s degree from UCLA in African American studies and Education studies. She then became a double Bruin when she earned her master’s degree in High Education Organizational Change from UCLA as well.
Gonzales is the first of her family to receive a Doctor of Education but insists she’s “not the last.” As for her next steps, said, “I plan to use my formal education to infiltrate spaces of higher education where Black women are underrepresented in leadership roles. I will continue my pursuit of leadership and service in higher education administration, paving the way for those who will come after me.”…
